SWSC Interconnection Project
Project Description:
The Springfield Water & Sewer Commission is proposing an extension of a 12 inch water main along KY Highway 150 in Eastern Washington County to Perryville, connecting the City of Danville's Water System to the Springfield Water and Sewer Commission's (SWSC) system. This connection will provide finished water redundancy for 4 of the 6 Springfield Hydraulic Pressure Zones in the eastern portion of Washington County. The project will also include an extension of an 8 inch water main from Lebanon Water System's lines to the SWSC system. This connection will provide finished water redundancy for 2 of the 6 Springfield Hydraulic Pressure Zones in the Western portion of Washington County and the City of Springfield itself. The two interconnections will provide finished water redundancy for the entire SWSC potable water system.

Briefly describe how this project promotes public health or achieves and/or maintains compliance with the Clean Water Act or Safe Drinking Water Act:
The project will provide a emergency and back up supply of water to the City of Springfield and also customers in Washington County. The Springfield Water Commission (SWSC) operates a water treatment plant and provides potable water to Springfield and the majority of Washington County. The City obtains its raw water from Willisburg Lake and Springfield Lake. The Springfield Lake Reservoir has had a major failure and is not a reliable source of raw water impoundment. The raw water transmission main from Willisburg Lake to Springfield has been interrupted due to failure caused by heavy rains that occurred last year. The City does not have a reliable dependable source of raw water. The City also does not have capacity for future economic and commercial growth.

The use of improved technologies and practices to deliver equal or better services with less water. Water efficiency encompasses conservation and reuse efforts, as well as water loss reduction and prevention, to protect water resources for the future. Examples include:
