Project Title:
Olive Hill Leak Detection and Repair

Project Description:
With the high water loss experienced by Olive Hill, this project will install leak detection equipment and provide funding for repair of leaks found by the use of this system. The leak detection portion of this project will rely on Zonescan and Aquascope hardware and associated software along with listening technology to locate leaks. Also included is expert assistance with this hardware to ensure best possible outcome of leak detection. Repairs will happen as located, budget for this portion of the project is estimated to the best guess of the procured engineering team. After leak detection results update: This Project will replace the aging PVC water lines from the Gavin Ridge water storage tank to the intersection of Hillman Hollow Rd and KY-174 with new HDPE water lines. It is estimated that 12000 LF of 8" water line and 20000 LF of 6" water line will be replaced. Meters, hydrants, valves, and any other related items necessary to completely replace the stated portion of the Cities water distribution system shall be installed as well.

Need For Project: Briefly describe how this project promotes public health or achieves and/or maintains compliance with the Clean Water Act or Safe Drinking Water Act:
Olive Hill has very high water loss with an aging system. General areas of water loss are known but exact points are difficult to locate with longer lines in rural areas. This will not only improve finances of the system with less water needing treatment but will improve water service and pressure to many residents using this water system. Replacing the aging water lines will ensure that residents continue to receive uninhibited access to safe and reliable potable water. It will also ensure that the water plant will meet its useful life standards as the volume of water treated and pumped should be reduced. Reducing the number of breaks and everyday maintenance of the water line will benefit the City's budget, as materials, labor, and other associated repair costs should be reduced. Another economic benefit of this project is that the City's finances will improve with less water needing to be treated and pumped through the system.

Locate leaks as work is done in the system.  Continue to treat larger volumes of water to ensure enough potable water is available for system connections.  If this path is taken, either the treatment plant will eventually need enlarging or a neighboring system will have to provide more water through an interconnect.

Water Efficiency:

The use of improved technologies and practices to deliver equal or better services with less water. Water efficiency encompasses conservation and reuse efforts, as well as water loss reduction and prevention, to protect water resources for the future. Examples include:
