Project Title:
Ball Park Pump Station/ Force Main - Phase II

Project Description:
The City plans to construct approximately 9,000 linear feet (L.F.) of 14-inch force main from the new Ball Park Pump Station, along the east side of the Cumberland River, to the River Road Pump Station. The new pump station that is being constructed in Phase I will be capable of pumping 1,100 gallons per minute (GPM), into the existing 8" force main. After the construction of the proposed 14" force main, the pumps, which are variable frequency drive (VFD's), will be capable of pumping 2,500 GPM. This additional pumping capacity is necessary to convey anticipated peak flow to the River Road Pump Station and relieve the existing SSO at the Ball Park Pump Station.

Need For Project: Briefly describe how this project promotes public health or achieves and/or maintains compliance with the Clean Water Act or Safe Drinking Water Act:
The City is currently under an Agreed Order (Case No. DOW-090226) from the KY Energy and Environment Cabinet (EEC), Division of Enforcement. As part of the Agreed Order, the City submitted a Sanitary Sewer Overflow Plan (SSOP) to EEC in December of 2010. The SSOP included a schedule for the methodical elimination of all SSO's in the City. This project is one of those identified that will eliminate existing SSO's.

Alternate B:

Construct a new force main that would run West from the Ball Park Pump Station to I-75 and then North along I-75  directly to the WWTP. This alternative would require multiple pump stations to overcome elevation differences and is not considered a feasible alternative.

Green Infrastructure:

Green stormwater infrastructure includes a wide array of practices at multiple scales that manage wet weather and that maintains and restores natural hydrology by infiltrating, evapotranspiring and harvesting and using stormwater. On a regional scale, green infrastructure is the preservation and restoration of natural landscape features, such as forests, floodplains, and wetlands, coupled with policies such as infill and redevelopment that reduce overall imperviousness in a watershed. On the local scale, green infrastructure consists of site and neighborhood-specific practices, such as:

Water Efficiency:

The use of improved technologies and practices to deliver equal or better services with less water. Water efficiency encompasses conservation and reuse efforts, as well as water loss reduction and prevention, to protect water resources for the future. Examples include:

Energy efficiency is the use of improved technologies and practices to reduce the energy consumption of water projects, use energy in a more efficient way, and/or produce/utilize renewable energy. Examples include:
