Water Distribution Main Replacement 2015
Project Description:
This project was previously reviewed in Clearinghouse (SAI KY201603150229) and the following scope of work has been added for review: The City of Harrodsburg would like to add a water main extension to the existing project scope. Currently, at the end of North Magnolia Avenue, there are two (2) dead end water mains on each side of Town Creek. Each dead end main has a hydrant. City personnel have to regularly flush the hydrants in order to move stagnate water and relieve the system of any disinfection by-products. The water main extension of the main along North Magnolia Ave. would include approximately 120-LF of 6" HPDE water main via horizontal directional drill creek crossing, 60 LF of 6" C-900 PVC water main, pavement replacement, connections to existing water mains, final restoration, and all other work associated with the completion of the water main extension. The addition of the water main extension on North Magnolia Avenue will further improve the water distribution system by reducing the development of disinfection by-products in two (2) dead end water mains. The proposed water main extension is related to the original scope of work as it further improves the Harrodsburg the quality and reliability of the water distribution system. Areas include lines on Cardinal Dr, Bob O Link Dr, Mokingbird Dr, Atlee Dr, Henrico Rd, Ashley Dr, Ellerson Dr, Hildeen Dr, Perryville Rd., Broadway St, Forsythe St, W. Lexington St, N. College St, S. Sunset Ln., Ada Dr, Cooke Ave, Storey Ave, Crozer Ave, Lynn Dr, Ross Ave, Noel Ave, Pheasant Dr., Cornishville St., and Moberly Rd.
Need For Project:
Briefly describe how this project promotes public health or achieves and/or maintains compliance with the Clean Water Act or Safe Drinking Water Act:
Aging pipes are corroding and deteriorating and have caused line breaks and leaks. The existing lines were installed in the 1940's and 1950's, and the cast iron material has corroded and cracked or broken. New PVC pipe will eliminate the problem of leaking and line breaks, and the associated health hazards.

The use of improved technologies and practices to deliver equal or better services with less water. Water efficiency encompasses conservation and reuse efforts, as well as water loss reduction and prevention, to protect water resources for the future. Examples include:
