Project Title:
Uniontown New Booster Pump Station Project

Project Description:
This project proposes the construction of a new VFD booster pump station in an effort to reduce overall Total Trihalomethanes (TTHM) in the Uniontown drinking water distribution system. By constructing a new VFD booster pump station, the system’s clear well and high service pumps can be bypassed, and drinking water can be pumped directly into the system. The city currently purchases water from the City of Morganfield. The water sent from Morganfield first enters Uniontown’s clear wells before being pumped into the city’s distribution system by high-service pumps. The rest of the city’s water plant has been abandoned is no longer in use. The city has adequate storage capabilities within its distribution system, and therefore the storage provided by the clear wells is no longer required.

Need For Project: Briefly describe how this project promotes public health or achieves and/or maintains compliance with the Clean Water Act or Safe Drinking Water Act:
TTHM's are mutagens that can increase the risk of cancer, mis-carrages and can damage the human central nervous system. TTHM's have an increased potential for formation with increased water age. This project, by reducing water age with a new booster pump station, will decrease the TTHM's in the drinking water while promoting better health for Uniontown's water customers.
