Project Title:
Buckhorn Water Treatment Plant

Project Description:
The project scope includes a new 3 MGD Water Treatment Plant (WTP) located in Buckhorn, KY just downstream of the Buckhorn Dam Tailwater Channel and Squabble Creek confluence or the Middle Fork of the Kentucky River. The project will include an intake structure in the Middle Fork channel and a WTP on the east side of the channel. The project will include committed participation by the Village of Buckhorn, Perry County Water and the City of Hazard. Hazard will own and operate the WTP and transmission line and there will be opportunities to provide wholesale water to possibly the Breathitt County Water District, Hyden-Leslie County District, City of Booneville, and the North Manchester Water District. The WTP will consist of a River Intake, Pre-treatment, 2-1 MGD processing trains (3 - 1.5 MGD processing trains if funding allows), Filtration circuit, disinfection circuit and high service pumps to clearwell storage for public distribution. there will be a laboratory with administrative offices on site. The proposed WTP and intake property is owned by the City of Hazard and was donated by the Buckhorn's Children and Family Institute for the project

Project will increase the economic viability and stability of the Industrial Park as well as reduce the likelyhood that residents in the surronding area will be without water.

Green Infrastructure:

Green stormwater infrastructure includes a wide array of practices at multiple scales that manage wet weather and that maintains and restores natural hydrology by infiltrating, evapotranspiring and harvesting and using stormwater. On a regional scale, green infrastructure is the preservation and restoration of natural landscape features, such as forests, floodplains, and wetlands, coupled with policies such as infill and redevelopment that reduce overall imperviousness in a watershed. Water Efficiency:

The use of improved technologies and practices to deliver equal or better services with less water. Water efficiency encompasses conservation and reuse efforts, as well as water loss reduction and prevention, to protect water resources for the future. Examples include:

Energy Efficiency:

Energy efficiency is the use of improved technologies and practices to reduce the energy consumption of water projects, use energy in a more efficient way, and/or produce/utilize renewable energy. Examples include:

The SCADA will allow the operator to control the plant remotely and optimize the flow through the system providing cost savings to the system. The VFD's will also provide annual cost savings as they will provide energy efficiency to the system as they operate based on the load necessary to operate at that given time.

Environmentally Innovative Projects:

Environmentally innovative projects include those that demonstrate new and/or innovative approaches to delivering services or managing water resources in a more sustainable way. Examples include:
