Project Title:
South Weir Tank Addition & Line Upgrade

Project Description:
The Muhlenberg County Water District has experienced significant growth in the southern end of their water system, including the addition of a significant Tyson Chicken operation in the remote southwest corner of the county. To better serve this growth, the district is in serious need for storage capacity and line upgrades to better serve this corner of the county. The project will include the addition of a new 250,000-gallon water tank, new booster pump station to serve the tank, and approximately 4 miles of new 4-inch and 6-inch waterlines. This project will use Trenchless Technology to do portions of this project. The total cost of the proposed project is estimated to be $4,525,000 and the work is expected to take at least 450 days to complete. This project will help approximately 181 underserved customers in the project area.

Need For Project: Briefly describe how this project promotes public health or achieves and/or maintains compliance with the Clean Water Act or Safe Drinking Water Act:
Replaces undersized water mains, loops two areas of the distribution area with significant creek crossings, and adds storage volume in a sensitive area of commercial growth within the county.

Green Infrastructure:

Green stormwater infrastructure includes a wide array of practices at multiple scales that manage wet weather and that maintains and restores natural hydrology by infiltrating, evapotranspiring and harvesting and using stormwater. On a regional scale, green infrastructure is the preservation and restoration of natural landscape features, such as forests, floodplains, and wetlands, coupled with policies such as infill and redevelopment that reduce overall imperviousness in a watershed. Water Efficiency:

The use of improved technologies and practices to deliver equal or better services with less water. Water efficiency encompasses conservation and reuse efforts, as well as water loss reduction and prevention, to protect water resources for the future. Examples include:
