Project Title:
Water Main & Hydrant Replacement Phase 2

Project Description:
The City of Harrrodsburg's water distribution system requires the replacement of waterlines and hydrants. The existing water lines which are proposed to be replaced are comprised of old unlined galvanized and cast iron pipes. These pipes are subject to corrosion and tuberculation that lead to low pressure and low flows. These waterlines require continuous maintenance and repairs. There are excessive operation and maintenance costs necessitated by the age and condition of the water distribution system. These old cast iron lines also have known lead joints and lead goosenecks. This project will consist of - the replacement of approximately 6,500 LF of 8”, 10” and 12" water main - replacement of approximately 20 water hydrant assemblies - installation of isolation valves between hydrants and watermain - approximately 25 meters services will be replaced with new AMR smart meters

Need For Project: Briefly describe how this project promotes public health or achieves and/or maintains compliance with the Clean Water Act or Safe Drinking Water Act:
This project involves the replacing of old water main with new pipe in order to reduce maintenance, water loss, and health hazards associated with main breaks. Additionally, the new water main will increase the efficiency of the system. Many of the hydrants in town are old and in need of replacement. Several of the existing hydrants do not have isolation valves between the hydrant and the water main.

Replace existing galvanized and cast iron water mains with new PVC or ductile iron water mains along the previously mentioned areas, including the replacement of services and meters. Replacement of hydrant assemblies will also be included.

Green stormwater infrastructure includes a wide array of practices at multiple scales that manage wet weather and that maintains and restores natural hydrology by infiltrating, evapotranspiring and harvesting and using stormwater. Water Efficiency:

The use of improved technologies and practices to deliver equal or better services with less water. Water efficiency encompasses conservation and reuse efforts, as well as water loss reduction and prevention, to protect water resources for the future. Examples include:
