Project Title:
Water Distribution System Improvements

Project Description:
Replacement of approximately 18,000 linear feet of existing cast iron water piping, and asbestos water lines, while increasing line sizes serving fire hydrants at key areas throughout the city. Upgrade the Brooks booster pumping station to address pressure and flow rate, and replace existing valving at critical locations. Upgrade carbon delivery system at treatment plant with placement of a dedicated 4” PVC line for carbon feeding. Implementation of storage tank upgrades, including retro-fitting all tanks for top-fill to ensure better tank turnover for maximum freshness of drinking water. Replacement of existing altitude valves with electronically-operated butterfly valves. Modify/upgrade existing telemetry to control new valves, while utilizing the existing vault valves.

Need For Project: Briefly describe how this project promotes public health or achieves and/or maintains compliance with the Clean Water Act or Safe Drinking Water Act:
This project will provide better service to the entire Greensburg water system customers—including the wholesale customer—and potentially make Greensburg more competitive in the courtship of industry. Corrosion build up in various locations of the city water distribution has reduced the capacity of existing lines and put a strain on the water system with regard to flow, pressure and storage tank utilization. New piping will improve water quality, increase water pressures and flow capacity and allow the system operators to manage the water storage tanks more efficiently and provide better capacity redundancy to the system as a whole. The upgrade of the Brooks booster pump station will increase capacity to Brooks tank and the northern portion of the city system. The existing homes affected go beyond the homes connected to the actual lines being replaced. The main purpose of the proposed improvements is to provide better flow and pressure throughout the system and to provide better connection balance between the storage tank locations around the system. These improvements to the system will also improve distribution to the wholesale customer, Green-Taylor Water District, which has connection points on the north and south end of the city system. These improvements will help distribute flow and pressure to the areas of the the system as needed, including the connection points of Green-Taylor.

Green Infrastructure:

Green stormwater infrastructure includes a wide array of practices at multiple scales that manage wet weather and that maintains and restores natural hydrology by infiltrating, evapotranspiring and harvesting and using stormwater. Water Efficiency:

The use of improved technologies and practices to deliver equal or better services with less water. Water efficiency encompasses conservation and reuse efforts, as well as water loss reduction and prevention, to protect water resources for the future. Examples include:
