Project Title:
Lead and Copper Rule effect on MEWS

Project Description:
With the new lead and copper rule MEWS will need to identify and replace many of the existing water service lines. Per our discussions and our review of the existing infrastructure it is likely that MEWS will need to address approximately 2,500 water services, which also includes galvanized water services. Due to the number of water mains located inside of the roadway, we recommend that services be located and that an approximate 4 ft by 4 ft cut be made in the asphalt to allow for hydro excavation. This will allow for the replacement of the goose neck and service line with minimum disruption. While this disruption is define as minimal MEWS will still create a significant impact to the roadways and may need to repave certain streets as part of this effort. For budgetary purposes we are estimate the cost for each service to be approximately $3,000. This number should be adequate to also cover the cost of service line investigation for those services that may not need to be replaced but will require identification. Therefore, we recommend establishing a budget of $7,500,000 for the next three year period to provide for this effort.

Green Infrastructure:

Green stormwater infrastructure includes a wide array of practices at multiple scales that manage wet weather and that maintains and restores natural hydrology by infiltrating, evapotranspiring and harvesting and using stormwater. On a regional scale, green infrastructure is the preservation and restoration of natural landscape features, such as forests, floodplains, and wetlands, coupled with policies such as infill and redevelopment that reduce overall imperviousness in a watershed. Water Efficiency:

The use of improved technologies and practices to deliver equal or better services with less water. Water efficiency encompasses conservation and reuse efforts, as well as water loss reduction and prevention, to protect water resources for the future. Examples include:
