Project Title:
Hustonville - Phase 1a Sewer Project

Project Description:
The project will provide wastewater collection and treatment to the unsewered community of Hustonville. Wastewater will be collected and transported to the existing Danville WWTP for treatment. Major project components include 8,230 feet of gravity collection sewer, 22,000 feet of force main and one pumping station. The project will serve approximately 135 residential and commercial customers. The project will also eliminate 23 failing septic tanks, 2 raw sewage discharges, and 2 package treatment plants. An inadequate sewage package treatment plant will be eliminated at the Hustonville Elementary School. The school is not able to operate its dishwasher because the package plant cannot handle the load in addition to the rest rooms. The package plant is landlocked and cannot be expanded. The second package treatment plant is located at an elderly apartment complex consisting of 16 units. The project will address a significant environmental and human concern with a direct impact on ground water. Each of the project beneficiaries is a customer of the Hustonville water system and each would become a Lincoln County Sanitation District sewer customer upon completion of the project.

Need For Project: Briefly describe how this project promotes public health or achieves and/or maintains compliance with the Clean Water Act or Safe Drinking Water Act:
Providing sewers will decommission septic tanks and package plants and help to remediate the e-coli found in the area and thereby improving the ground water and surface water in the region. Sampling in the Hanging Fork subwatershed found 4 out of sites showed the e-coli to be from mainly human sources. Sewers will also allow for the elimination of an inadequate package treatment plant at Hustonville Elementary School. Currently the school cannot operate its dishwasher. Approximately 400 students and staff are eating on Styrofoam trays with plastic utensils for breakfast and lunch.

Green Infrastructure:

Green stormwater infrastructure includes a wide array of practices at multiple scales that manage wet weather and that maintains and restores natural hydrology by infiltrating, evapotranspiring and harvesting and using stormwater. On a regional scale, green infrastructure is the preservation and restoration of natural landscape features, such as forests, floodplains, and wetlands, coupled with policies such as infill and redevelopment that reduce overall imperviousness in a watershed. Water Efficiency:

The use of improved technologies and practices to deliver equal or better services with less water. Water efficiency encompasses conservation and reuse efforts, as well as water loss reduction and prevention, to protect water resources for the future. Examples include:

Energy efficiency is the use of improved technologies and practices to reduce the energy consumption of water projects, use energy in a more efficient way, and/or produce/utilize renewable energy. Examples include:
