Project Title:
Lower Griffin Gate Trunk

Project Description:
Replace / up-size approximately 4,700 linear feet, 2,800’+/- of 30” and 1,900’+/- of 21”, of an existing gravity sanitary sewer to provide sufficient capacity to meet LFUCG's EPA mandated Capacity Assurance Program and eliminate existing Sanitary Sewer Overflows (SSOs). Currently the system is suffering from I/I as a result of lack of capacity. Project proposed in LFUCG's Remedial Measures Plan, submitted to USEPA on April 13, 2012. This is a sister project to an underserved households project so there should be no underserved households until the upstream projects are proposed.

Need For Project: Briefly describe how this project promotes public health or achieves and/or maintains compliance with the Clean Water Act or Safe Drinking Water Act:
Existing sanitary sewer that lacks sufficient capacity to meet LFUCG's EPA mandated Capacity Assurance Program. Project proposed in LFUCG's Remedial Measures Plan, submitted to USEPA on April 13, 2012. Projects as part of the RMP program will result in reduction of I/I by installing new pipe and related infrastructure. Reduction in I/I and the related increase in flow caused by I/I will result in reduced conveyance system O&M costs, reduced energy costs, and reduced O&M treatment costs as well as reducing the potential for sanitary sewer overflows (SSOs).

Eliminate sufficient private property inflow and infiltration so that pipeline has required capacity. Private property work must be complete and successful by June 30, 2015 or LFUCG may be subject to stipulated penalties under its Consent Decree.

Construct additional wastewater storage tanks upstream from the project area, incurring higher costs and disrupting established neighborhoods.

Green Infrastructure:

Green stormwater infrastructure includes a wide array of practices at multiple scales that manage wet weather and that maintains and restores natural hydrology by infiltrating, evapotranspiring and harvesting and using stormwater. On a regional scale, green infrastructure is the preservation and restoration of natural landscape features, such as forests, floodplains, and wetlands, coupled with policies such as infill and redevelopment that reduce overall imperviousness in a watershed. Water Efficiency:

The use of improved technologies and practices to deliver equal or better services with less water. Water efficiency encompasses conservation and reuse efforts, as well as water loss reduction and prevention, to protect water resources for the future. Examples include:

LFUCG has a Consent Decree (CD) with USEPA and the Kentucky Division of Water that outlines the time lines required for the elimination of recurring SSO's.
