Versailles Wastewater Treatment Plant Expansion
Project Description:
The project includes the expansion of the 3.0 MGD facility to a capacity of 4.5 MGD with a peak capacity of 12.5 MGD, with the addition of a new influent channel and Parshall flume, new Preliminary Treatment Building with mechanically cleaned screens and grit removal units, new Sequencing Batch Reactors (SBR), new UV disinfection system, new phosphorus removal system, along with site piping, pumps, instrumentation, and a new backup generator. Currently, this project is only requesting a loan to cover planning and design.
Need For Project:
Briefly describe how this project promotes public health or achieves and/or maintains compliance with the Clean Water Act or Safe Drinking Water Act:
The City has experienced increased flows as the area develops and the customer base increases. During periods of wet weather, the WWTP receives large amounts of flow that sometimes exceed the plant's treatment capacity. The City is currently performing a Sanitary Sewer Evaluation Survey to address the problem of wet-weather flows in the system. The new grit removal system, the phosphorus removal system and the UV disinfection equipment are all new treatment methods that will improve the quality of the discharge and insure the compliance with existing and future regulatory limits. The existing recycled water system will be expanded and improved, and storm water control will be implemented on site. Systems will be designed to promote increased environmental stewardship, energy efficiency and sustainability.

Green stormwater infrastructure includes a wide array of practices at multiple scales that manage wet weather and that maintains and restores natural hydrology by infiltrating, evapotranspiring and harvesting and using stormwater. On a regional scale, green infrastructure is the preservation and restoration of natural landscape features, such as forests, floodplains, and wetlands, coupled with policies such as infill and redevelopment that reduce overall imperviousness in a watershed. Water Efficiency:
The use of improved technologies and practices to deliver equal or better services with less water. Water efficiency encompasses conservation and reuse efforts, as well as water loss reduction and prevention, to protect water resources for the future. Examples include:
