Project Title:
Springfield Downtown Sewer Replacement

Project Description:
Replacement of approximately 1,080 linear feet of 8-inch vitrified clay sanitary sewer pipe (VCP) and five (5) brick manholes in downtown Springfield, KY. The new PVC sewer will be the same size and in the same horizontal and vertical alignment as the existing sewer. Service laterals to existing sewer customers will be reconnected to the new sewer.

Need For Project: Briefly describe how this project promotes public health or achieves and/or maintains compliance with the Clean Water Act or Safe Drinking Water Act:
The City of Springfield plans to implement a KYTC Transportation Alternatives Program project to replace deteriorated sidewalks in downtown Springfield. The existing sanitary sewer in the sidewalk replacement locations is old, shallow vitrified clay pipe (VCP) and would be expected to be damaged during construction. If not replaced during the sidewalk project, it is likely that future repairs to the sewer would result in impacts to the new streetscape infrastructure.

Green Infrastructure:

Green stormwater infrastructure includes a wide array of practices at multiple scales that manage wet weather and that maintains and restores natural hydrology by infiltrating, evapotranspiring and harvesting and using stormwater. On a regional scale, green infrastructure is the preservation and restoration of natural landscape features, such as forests, floodplains, and wetlands, coupled with policies such as infill and redevelopment that reduce overall imperviousness in a watershed. Water Efficiency:

The use of improved technologies and practices to deliver equal or better services with less water. Water efficiency encompasses conservation and reuse efforts, as well as water loss reduction and prevention, to protect water resources for the future. Examples include:
