Project Title:
Hazard Downtown Redevelopment Sewer Project

Project Description:
All downtown sewers will be TV inspected as a first phase. There may be portions of the existing sewer mains that have not reached the end of their useful lives and should/may be retained if not disturbed by other construction. Conversely, The City may be the owner of sanitary sewer mains which are constructed with “Orangeburg” pipe (a coated paper type pipe), steel pipe, or other type which is wholly unsatisfactory. Undoubtedly, existing sewer taps will be found that are poorly completed. All of these issues cause infiltration (and exfiltration) of liquids and solids which cause dangers to the health of the sewer collection and treatment systems, and dangers to the public health and welfare. New sanitary sewers will be constructed of heavy wall Poly Vinyl Chloride (PVC) with gasketed joints, fused PVC (similar to the process for PE, no joints), and if properly bedded and constructed, have a very long design life. Relining of mains (with a PVC “sock”) will be considered as an option where appropriate. Pipe bursting, where the surface is not disturbed when pipe is replaced with new PE pipe, will also be considered. Project components include:1,390 LF of 12" Gravity line, 2,880 LF of 8" gravity line, 28 manholes, 3,500 LF of fiber optic trunk and 6,000 LF of 2" conduit, 2,000 LF of power 4" conduit and 850 LF of gasline replacement.

Green Infrastructure:

Green stormwater infrastructure includes a wide array of practices at multiple scales that manage wet weather and that maintains and restores natural hydrology by infiltrating, evapotranspiring and harvesting and using stormwater. On a regional scale, green infrastructure is the preservation and restoration of natural landscape features, such as forests, floodplains, and wetlands, coupled with policies such as infill and redevelopment that reduce overall imperviousness in a watershed. Water Efficiency:

The use of improved technologies and practices to deliver equal or better services with less water. Water efficiency encompasses conservation and reuse efforts, as well as water loss reduction and prevention, to protect water resources for the future. Examples include:

Energy efficiency is the use of improved technologies and practices to reduce the energy consumption of water projects, use energy in a more efficient way, and/or produce/utilize renewable energy. Examples include:
