Project Title:
Sludge Press Building

Project Description:
Project consists of the replacement of the Paducah WWTP Dewatering Building, including the gravity belt thickener and belt filter press. The project also removes the "Dystor" cover from the secondary digester and replaces it with a fixed cover. There is also water loop, boiler, electrical and sludge piping modifications. New screw presses, new disk thickener, and new conveyance system to City of Paducah Compost, as well as to vehicles for transport to landfills will be constructed. Old motors related to the presses will be replaced with new energy efficient motors powered by variable frequency drives.”

Need For Project: Briefly describe how this project promotes public health or achieves and/or maintains compliance with the Clean Water Act or Safe Drinking Water Act:
The existing Dewatering Building and equipment was constructed in the late 1980's and is severly past its service life. The "Dystor" cover is also past the manufacturer's recommended service life as well. If the Dystor cover is not removed or replaced, it will fail. Without replacement , the Dewatering building and related equipment will also fail to the point of being not usable, not allowing for proper sanitary treatment at Paducah.

Continue to remodel, refurbish the existing equipment in the Dewatering building, which will lead to more downtime and more maintenance costs.  Replace the Dystor and refurbish all of the existing piping on the water system, which is not an acceptable design for the future.

Alternate B:

Do nothing, allow the Dystor to fail.  Allow the gas and sludge lines to fail.

Green Infrastructure:

Green stormwater infrastructure includes a wide array of practices at multiple scales that manage wet weather and that maintains and restores natural hydrology by infiltrating, evapotranspiring and harvesting and using stormwater. On a regional scale, green infrastructure is the preservation and restoration of natural landscape features, such as forests, floodplains, and wetlands, coupled with policies such as infill and redevelopment that reduce overall imperviousness in a watershed. On the local scale, green infrastructure consists of site and neighborhood-specific practices, such as:

Water Efficiency:

The use of improved technologies and practices to deliver equal or better services with less water. Water efficiency encompasses conservation and reuse efforts, as well as water loss reduction and prevention, to protect water resources for the future. Examples include:

Energy efficiency is the use of improved technologies and practices to reduce the energy consumption of water projects, use energy in a more efficient way, and/or produce/utilize renewable energy. Examples include:
