Project Title:
Honey Branch WWTP Upgrade

Project Description:
Expansion of the existing Honey Branch WWTP to increase capacity from 1 MGD to 2 MGD. The adjacent property has been purchased, allowing ample acreage for the expansion. This project would include expanding the screening operations, installing grit removal, installation of a new Orbal Oxidation Ditch system with room for future expansion, installation of two new clarifiers with room for future additional clarification, installation of a new PAA contact basin, a new RAS/WAS pump station, addition of a belt filter press, construction of a new solids handling facility, and renovations of the existing administration building. The existing lagoon structures will be salvaged and used for flow equalization and sludge storage.

Need For Project: Briefly describe how this project promotes public health or achieves and/or maintains compliance with the Clean Water Act or Safe Drinking Water Act:
With current and known future system growth, the Honey Branch WWTP will be quickly approaching 70% of the original design capacity and the several parts of the facility are at the end of their useful life. Johnson County is seeing growth and they are agressively pursuing economic growth and development. The Honey Branch WWTP currently serves the East Kentucky Business Park and Federal Prison. As such, the facilty must remain is good operating condition and have enough capacity to allow for continued Economic Growth and Development.

Expand the WWTP with Sequencing Batch Reactor (SBR) technology. This technology is more expensive and difficult to operate.

Green Infrastructure:

Green stormwater infrastructure includes a wide array of practices at multiple scales that manage wet weather and that maintains and restores natural hydrology by infiltrating, evapotranspiring and harvesting and using stormwater. On a regional scale, green infrastructure is the preservation and restoration of natural landscape features, such as forests, floodplains, and wetlands, coupled with policies such as infill and redevelopment that reduce overall imperviousness in a watershed. Water Efficiency:

The use of improved technologies and practices to deliver equal or better services with less water. Water efficiency encompasses conservation and reuse efforts, as well as water loss reduction and prevention, to protect water resources for the future. Examples include:

Energy efficiency is the use of improved technologies and practices to reduce the energy consumption of water projects, use energy in a more efficient way, and/or produce/utilize renewable energy. Examples include:
