Project Title:
Wastewater Treatment Plant Improvements 2020

Project Description:
The project would replace the existing failing and outdated disinfection and sludge handling equipment at the existing WWTP. The existing disinfection system (UV) equipment has been discontinued and replacement UV bulbs and replacement parts are becoming hard to procure and cost prohibitive. The WWTP sludge handling equipment (centrifuge) has failed and the operator is wasting sludge via a sludge hauler that disposes of the sludge at another facility, a costly option. The City has determined that it must upgrade the existing UV system and sludge handling methods to meet the current demands and the forseeable future demands. The project would retrofit the existing UV channel with a new UV System and install a rotary press to replace the centrifuge.

Need For Project: Briefly describe how this project promotes public health or achieves and/or maintains compliance with the Clean Water Act or Safe Drinking Water Act:
Without replacing the outdated UV disinfection system and sludge handling equipment it will be impossible for the WWTP operators to treat and meet KPDES permitted discharge limits.

Green Infrastructure:

Green stormwater infrastructure includes a wide array of practices at multiple scales that manage wet weather and that maintains and restores natural hydrology by infiltrating, evapotranspiring and harvesting and using stormwater. On a regional scale, green infrastructure is the preservation and restoration of natural landscape features, such as forests, floodplains, and wetlands, coupled with policies such as infill and redevelopment that reduce overall imperviousness in a watershed. Water Efficiency:

The use of improved technologies and practices to deliver equal or better services with less water. Water efficiency encompasses conservation and reuse efforts, as well as water loss reduction and prevention, to protect water resources for the future. Examples include:
