Project Title:
West Hickman WWTP ASH Tank Blower Replacement

Project Description:
Upgrade of aeration blowers serving the Aerated Sludge Holding (ASH) tanks at West Hickman WWTP Existing blowers, installed in 1999 cannot meet the minimum dissolved oxygen (DO) levels needed to control odor generation and maximize phosphorus uptake.

Need For Project: Briefly describe how this project promotes public health or achieves and/or maintains compliance with the Clean Water Act or Safe Drinking Water Act:
Current blowers undersized to provide DO levels needed to 1) operate both ASH tanks in series, 2) minimize the release of phosphorus from the solids stored in the tank and 3) to control odors generated by the sludge storage complex. Sludge storage is essential because disposal times are controlled by landfill operations.

Green Infrastructure:

Green stormwater infrastructure includes a wide array of practices at multiple scales that manage wet weather and that maintains and restores natural hydrology by infiltrating, evapotranspiring and harvesting and using stormwater. On a regional scale, green infrastructure is the preservation and restoration of natural landscape features, such as forests, floodplains, and wetlands, coupled with policies such as infill and redevelopment that reduce overall imperviousness in a watershed. On the local scale, green infrastructure consists of site and neighborhood-specific practices, such as:

Water Efficiency:

The use of improved technologies and practices to deliver equal or better services with less water. Water efficiency encompasses conservation and reuse efforts, as well as water loss reduction and prevention, to protect water resources for the future. Examples include:

Energy Efficiency:

Energy efficiency is the use of improved technologies and practices to reduce the energy consumption of water projects, use energy in a more efficient way, and/or produce/utilize renewable energy. Examples include:

eplacement of motors and controls installed in 1999 with equipment manufactured in 2024 will undoubtedly increase energy efficiency. Currently running blowers on hand to get DO over the needed lower limit so that excess oxygen might be available in the process. Upgraded motor controls programed to deliver oxygen based on measured demand is the overall energy benefit.

Environmentally Innovative Projects:

Environmentally innovative projects include those that demonstrate new and/or innovative approaches to delivering services or managing water resources in a more sustainable way. Examples include:
