Project Title:
Olive Hill: Rehab of City Lines to Replace Clay Pipe

Project Description:
This project proposes to replace 800 linear feet of 8 inch clay pipe with PVC along Tygarts Creek west from Chilli Street to the Hydreco Housing Project (115 households) going the length of 4 manholes. The replacement of the existing clay pipe lines with PVC will mitigate the current inflow and infiltration problems the City of Olive Hill's collection system is experiencing.

Need For Project: Briefly describe how this project promotes public health or achieves and/or maintains compliance with the Clean Water Act or Safe Drinking Water Act:
This project will reduce the risk of sanitary sewer overflow. Currently, the wastewater treatment plant receives inflow volumes of up to 6 million gallons per day and has a design capacity of 3.5 million gallons per day. By minimizing the inflow and infiltration in the system, the City of Olive Hill will not only be improving environmental conditions in the area, but improving the operations of their wastewater treatment plant.

An alternative to this project would be slip-lining the existing lines; however, due to the extreme deterioration of the existing lines, this may not be a feasible option.

Another alternative to this project would be expanding the existing wastewater treatment plant; however, the expense and operation requirements for a large treatment plant are not feasible.

Green Infrastructure:

Green stormwater infrastructure includes a wide array of practices at multiple scales that manage wet weather and that maintains and restores natural hydrology by infiltrating, evapotranspiring and harvesting and using stormwater. On a regional scale, green infrastructure is the preservation and restoration of natural landscape features, such as forests, floodplains, and wetlands, coupled with policies such as infill and redevelopment that reduce overall imperviousness in a watershed. On the local scale, green infrastructure consists of site and neighborhood-specific practices, such as:

Water Efficiency:

The use of improved technologies and practices to deliver equal or better services with less water. Water efficiency encompasses conservation and reuse efforts, as well as water loss reduction and prevention, to protect water resources for the future. Examples include:
