Project Title:
Hardinsburg Sewer System Rehabilitation Phase 2

Project Description:
This project will replace sections of existing sewer lines on East and West Fourth Street, South Tower Street, East and West Fifth Street, South Main Street, Breckinridge Street, and Beard Street. It is estimated that the existing sewer lines will be replaced with 12,000 linear feet of 8” gravity main PVC. It is expected that much of the existing line is clay tile of various sizes. Laterals from the new main to individual customer connections will be 6 inch PVC. Improvements to the wastewater treatment plant include an addition to the operations building to separate personnel from the electrical and chemical components in the plant. Installation of new actuators and continued work on the valves for return and waste sludge pumps; replacing the return and waste sludge pumps with new automated pumps, improvements to the sludge decant system and a new standby generator. None of these improvements will increase the capacity of the wastewater treatment plant.

Need For Project: Briefly describe how this project promotes public health or achieves and/or maintains compliance with the Clean Water Act or Safe Drinking Water Act:
The current lines are many decades old and in poor condition leading to inflow and infiltration. The WWTP improvements will protect plant personnel from the electrical components and chemical exposure. The other improvements will decrease O&M cost and improve biological treatment.

Green Infrastructure:

Green stormwater infrastructure includes a wide array of practices at multiple scales that manage wet weather and that maintains and restores natural hydrology by infiltrating, evapotranspiring and harvesting and using stormwater. On a regional scale, green infrastructure is the preservation and restoration of natural landscape features, such as forests, floodplains, and wetlands, coupled with policies such as infill and redevelopment that reduce overall imperviousness in a watershed. Water Efficiency:

The use of improved technologies and practices to deliver equal or better services with less water. Water efficiency encompasses conservation and reuse efforts, as well as water loss reduction and prevention, to protect water resources for the future. Examples include:

Replacing the existing clay tile sewer pipe with the 8 inch PVC will eliminate a substantial amount of I&I. The pumps installed will have VFD and be more energy efficient.

Environmentally Innovative Projects:

Environmentally innovative projects include those that demonstrate new and/or innovative approaches to delivering services or managing water resources in a more sustainable way. Examples include:
