Project Title:
SD4: Rehab Ray Drive Sewer Line

Project Description:
This project proposes to replace approximately 1,500 linear feet (LF) of sewer line located on Ray Drive in the Rockdale community outside of Ashland, Kentucky. The sewer line is located on a hillside which has slipped and exposed the existing line. Although the line is still intact, it requires mitigation to ensure that the line does not break. The existing line will be replaced with 8-inch PVC and will directly impact 15 households. This project not only includes the replacement of the existing line, but the stabilization of the hill to reduce the risk of future slipping and line breaks.

Need For Project: Briefly describe how this project promotes public health or achieves and/or maintains compliance with the Clean Water Act or Safe Drinking Water Act:
This project is needed to maintain compliance with the Clean Water Act because it will reduce I & I which will make the treatment of wastewater more efficient. Also, this project will promote the public health in the Rockdale area by mitigating a potential sewer line break on Ray Drive and preventing the contamination of ground water in the area.

One alternative for this project is to make minor repairs to the line as needed; however this will require substantial maintenance and is inefficient for daily operations.

Alternate B:

Another alternative for this project is to relocate the line; however this is cost prohibitive. It would be difficult and costly to design and incorporate Ray Drive into the system if the line was relocated.

Green Infrastructure:

Green stormwater infrastructure includes a wide array of practices at multiple scales that manage wet weather and that maintains and restores natural hydrology by infiltrating, evapotranspiring and harvesting and using stormwater. On a regional scale, green infrastructure is the preservation and restoration of natural landscape features, such as forests, floodplains, and wetlands, coupled with policies such as infill and redevelopment that reduce overall imperviousness in a watershed. On the local scale, green infrastructure consists of site and neighborhood-specific practices, such as:

Water Efficiency:

The use of improved technologies and practices to deliver equal or better services with less water. Water efficiency encompasses conservation and reuse efforts, as well as water loss reduction and prevention, to protect water resources for the future. Examples include:

Energy efficiency is the use of improved technologies and practices to reduce the energy consumption of water projects, use energy in a more efficient way, and/or produce/utilize renewable energy. Examples include:
