Project Title:
Whitley County: Water System Improvements

Project Description:
Project proposes to upgrade 36,440 L.F. of water distribution lines in four areas of Whitley County. The four areas are: 1. Fairview (2,000 L.F.), 2. Savoy (11,780 L.F.), 3. Faber (9,080 L.F.), and 4. Woodbine (14,380 L.F.). The existing lines in these areas are undersized. In many instances the lines were originally installed by private individuals as service line and their poor leaking condition is contributing greatly to Whitley County Water District's high nonrevenue water volume. The cost of frequently having to repair leaks in these areas is also negatively effecting the District's finances. The district will also be replacing meters with radio read meters to better manage the system's usage.

Green Infrastructure:

Green stormwater infrastructure includes a wide array of practices at multiple scales that manage wet weather and that maintains and restores natural hydrology by infiltrating, evapotranspiring and harvesting and using stormwater. On a regional scale, green infrastructure is the preservation and restoration of natural landscape features, such as forests, floodplains, and wetlands, coupled with policies such as infill and redevelopment that reduce overall imperviousness in a watershed. Water Efficiency:

The use of improved technologies and practices to deliver equal or better services with less water. Water efficiency encompasses conservation and reuse efforts, as well as water loss reduction and prevention, to protect water resources for the future. Examples include:
