Project Title:
Woodlawn WWTP Expansion

Project Description:
Project is to upgrade the Woodlawn WWTP by constructing a new influent pump station, polishing reactor, dissolved air flotation system, disinfection tanks and a new effluent pump station to increase design flow from 0.9 MGD to 1.35 MGD. The existing lagoon system will still be utilized in the treatment process, and will help absorb the peak flow, helping to reduce potential for SSO’s in collection system due to more manageable wet weather storage, and allowing the continued use of the existing 12 inch discharge force main to the Tennessee River. The project will allow the Woodlawn WWTP to improve effluent quality, reducing contaminants being discharged to the Tennessee River. This project is necessary to comply with Agreed Order DOW-18-3-0137.

Need For Project: Briefly describe how this project promotes public health or achieves and/or maintains compliance with the Clean Water Act or Safe Drinking Water Act:
The Woodlawn WWTP is a facultative lagoon that serves approximately 2000 customers. The service area is land locked from expansion. The effluent produced by the plant during wet weather is satisfactory quality wise, but the volume of effluent flow greatly exceeds the rated capacity during the wet months which result in poundage exceedances for BOD.

Green Infrastructure:

Green stormwater infrastructure includes a wide array of practices at multiple scales that manage wet weather and that maintains and restores natural hydrology by infiltrating, evapotranspiring and harvesting and using stormwater. On a regional scale, green infrastructure is the preservation and restoration of natural landscape features, such as forests, floodplains, and wetlands, coupled with policies such as infill and redevelopment that reduce overall imperviousness in a watershed. On the local scale, green infrastructure consists of site and neighborhood-specific practices, such as:

Water Efficiency:

The use of improved technologies and practices to deliver equal or better services with less water. Water efficiency encompasses conservation and reuse efforts, as well as water loss reduction and prevention, to protect water resources for the future. Examples include:

Energy efficiency is the use of improved technologies and practices to reduce the energy consumption of water projects, use energy in a more efficient way, and/or produce/utilize renewable energy. Examples include:
